WILMINGTON, N.C. – Miss Doris Carr died on March 15, 2011 in Wilmington, N.C. at the age of 94 years.

Miss Carr was born on March 3, 1917 in Pensacola, Fla., the oldest child of Thomas Cecil Carr, a native of Tuskegee, and Lucy Ethel Gordon Carr, a native of Atmore.

She grew up in Macon County, lived for some 20 years in Birmingham, moved to Mobile in the early 1960s and moved to Wilmington, N.C. in 2005. She worked as a legal secretary for Vickers, Riis, Murray and Curran in Mobile for many years. Doris was a loving aunt who enjoyed reading, music, travel and volunteer work for National Public Radio affiliate WHIL in Mobile. She was a longtime member of West Side United Methodist Church in Mobile.

Her sisters, Ruth Carr and Mildred Gordon Carr and one brother, Thomas Cecil Carr Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Mrs. T.C. Carr Jr. (Annette) of St. Paul, Minn.; five nieces, Julianne (Bruce) Seiber of St. Paul, Minn., Lucy (Thomas) Hubert of St. Louis, Mo., Deena (Don) Hanke of Seattle, Wash., Ellen (Kim) Hollon of Canton, ME and Patricia (Larry) Adams of Wilmington, N.C. and one nephew, Thomas Cecil Carr III (Lisa) of Atlanta, Ga. She also had three great nieces; one great nephew and one great-great niece.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011 in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Side United Methodist Church, 269 Mohawk St., Mobile, AL 36606 or WHIL Radio, 4000 Dauphin St., Mobile, AL 36608.
