Escambia County fell 53-13 to W.S. Neal tonight in region action in East Brewton.

The Blue Devils and Blue Eagles went back and forth during the first half. WSN led 22-13 going into the break.

But, some quick scores to start the third quarter gave WSN a widened lead it wouldn’t give back.

ECHS head football coach Vincent Harris said the boys took the game on the chin.

Harris said in the second half, they didn’t score on the first drive.

“They (the Blue Eagles) scored on a long run by the quarterback on the next series,” Harris said. “They rattled off about three quick ones. Then, they kicked an onside kick like they normally did. It just didn’t fall our way.”

Harris said the kids kept fighting to the bitter end.

“We’ve got two more games, and we’re going to try and finish strong,” he said.

The Blue Devils (2-6, 0-5 in Class 4A, Region 1) host Satsuma on Oct. 18 for homecoming, and then play Hillcrest-Evergreen to finish the season at home.

Harris said God is good, all the time.

“His will be done,” he said.
