The city of Atmore received $1.4 million to expand its industrial park and tackle drainage issues on Trammell Street, according to officials.
The city was awarded $703,246 through the SEEDS Act from the state of Alabama to acquire additional property within its Industrial Park. The acquisition of the extra acreage allows the Alabama Department of Commerce to market a unified 180 acres within the park for businesses and industries that will bring higher-paying jobs to the city, according to a release.
The site is intermodal, allowing access to major highways and rail lines.
“The site’s interior is already served by two rail spurs owned by the city of Atmore. It is shovel-ready for industries, with power, water, sewer, gas, and telecommunications in place,” said Mayor Jim Staff in a release. “All the preliminary engineering, Geotech, and surveys have been done. In short, this site will be at the top of the list of properties offered to industries looking to relocate to the area.”
Additionally, the city also received $700,000, through Sen. Greg Albritton, in allocation from the FY2025 appropriations granted by Gov. Kay Ivey and the Alabama Legislature for infrastructure upgrades.
A portion of this funding will cover the shortfall of the Industrial Park Expansion Project, and the remainder will be utilized for a drainage project on Trammell Street.
“This was a great opportunity for our locals to partner with the state for commercial development,” Albritton said. “We’ve worked hard on the state level to get funding. It all came together, and we’re ready.”
