An Atmore man was arrested Oct. 23 on drug trafficking and possession charges, according to officials.
Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Kelvin Cooper, 48, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking, possession of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia.
McMann said at approximately 10:10 p.m. on the day of the arrest, APD officers escorted the owner of a vehicle to 93 Brown St.
McMann said Cooper borrowed the vehicle from the owner, and refused to return it or allow the owner to retrieve it.
“When officers arrived at Cooper’s residence, they contacted him as he sat in the vehicle,” McMann said. “The vehicle had a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and Cooper had a marijuana cigarette in his hand. Cooper was detained and a K-9 was deployed. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle, which led to a probable cause search.”
McMann said the search yielded several grams of fentanyl, several grams of marijuana and items used to package narcotics.
Cooper was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
