The Atmore Police Department is seeking the public’s help for information regarding a shooting that occurred on 4^th Avenue Thursday night.

Chief Chuck Brooks said at a press conference this morning that at approximately 9:46 p.m. last night, the APD received a call from an address on 4^th Avenue, where multiple houses and vehicles were hit by gunfire in an act of violence.

“Every officer, plus all off duty officers were called to process the scene to collect evidence,” Brooks said.

Brooks expressed his displeasure on what occurred.

“I am tried of the violence in this city,” he said. “We’re trying to be proactive, but the gun violence has to stop. We are responsible for the public’s safety.”

Brooks said he’s pulling everybody off current cases, and putting all on this shooting case.

“We can do 100 things great for this city, but this is awful,” he said.

Brooks said he’s contacted federal and state authorities for assistance in this case.

“When we find those responsible, we’ll charge them with attempted murder,” he said.

Brooks added that the APD is in the early stages of the investigation, but noted that 49 shell casings were recovered.

Brooks said those residents who have ring cameras who recorded the shooting are encouraged to send the recordings into the police department.

Brooks said the department is going to do everything in its power to get the gun violence stopped, adding that justice will be served after this shooting and the alleged shooters will be locked up.

Brooks said no one was injured in the shooting Thursday night.

“Thank God, there were no injuries,” he said. “This could’ve been bad. A city under curfew is coming if this continues.”

Brooks reiterated that the department is in the early stages of the investigation, and they will thoroughly investigate and get the right people.

“Any lead will be investigated,” Brooks added. “Thank God no one was hurt. We’ll use every resource in our tool box to arrest every individual involved.”
