Atmore Police Department officers discovered forty-nine spent shell casings from three different firearms after the 4th Avenue shooting on Halloween Night (Oct. 31), according to officials.

APD Public Information Officer Darrell McMann said in a release that at 9:46 p.m. Thursday, police officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of 4th Avenue in reference to shots fired into a residence.

“When the responding officers arrived on the scene, they discovered 49 spent shell casings fired from three different firearms,” McMann said. “No one was injured, however there were multiple residences and vehicles that were struck by gunfire.”
McMann said multiple officers actually heard the gunfire, and began responding to the area.

“During the investigation, the officer assigned to that patrol area actually drove through the intersection where the suspects were firing from approximately 4 minutes prior to the shooting, according to the GPS installed in the patrol vehicle,” he said. “The shell casings were recovered and placed into evidence and will be analyzed by the (Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences).”
McMann said Chief Chuck Brooks has been in contact with liaisons from several federal law enforcement agencies to assist the APD in bringing to an end the senseless gun violence occurring in the community.

“The suspects involved in this reckless and senseless act will be charged with attempted murder and any other criminal charges that apply,” he said.

McMann said the APD is asking for anyone with information in reference to this incident to contact the department.

“We can be contacted via email at Crimetips@atmorepolice.us or by an anonymous phone call,” he said. “It is the Atmore Police Department’s goal to make Atmore safe for everyone. It should be the desire of every citizen in Atmore to live in a safe community.”
