2 men arrested on contraband, drug charges by ADOC K-9 unit at Fountain Correctional Facility

Two men were arrested Nov. 1 on contraband and drug charges at Fountain Correctional Facility, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Public Information Officer Kelly Betts said in a release that Jovaughn T. Matzner and Nicholas Williams, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana I, attempting to promote prison contraband I and prohibited activities. Age and where they live were not provided.

Betts said on the day of the arrest, an ADOC K-9 unit spotted a suspicious vehicle on state property at Fountain Correctional Facility, just outside Atmore.

Betts said a traffic stop was conducted and the occupants (Matzner and Williams) were detained.

“As part of the initial investigation, three packages containing contraband were confiscated and taken into evidence,” Betts said.

Betts said both suspects were booked into the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.

The ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division investigation is ongoing and further charges may be pending.
