Freddie Lee Wright is scheduled to die in Holman's electric chair Friday at 12:01 a.m.
Robert Lee Tarver, the last man scheduled to die at Holman, was granted a stay just hours before his appointed time. To date, there has been no indication that Wright will receive a stay.
Wright, who has been on Death Row for 21 years, was convicted for the 1977 robbery and murder of Warren and Lois Green at their Western Auto store in Mount Vernon.
According to documentation from the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, Wright and three other men stopped at Western Auto to get tape to repair a car seat. The stop escalated into a robbery with the Greens tied up with an extension cord.
Wright was reportedly the last one to leave the store. The other suspects testified that when Wright returned to the car, he told the others that he had taken care of the couple.
They were shot in the back of the head with a .38 caliber pistol.
During appeal, Wright claimed he was present at the crime but he didn't pull the trigger.
Wright's first trial ended in a mistrial, but a Mobile County Grand Jury re-indicted him for the capital offense of robbery when the victim is intentionally killed in first-degree murder.
Hamm said he has received several inquires about Wright's execution and expects a good deal of local interest since Wright's crime occurred near Mobile.
Bills to change Alabama's mode of execution from the electric chair to lethal injection are pending in both the House and Senate.
Hamm, Holman Deputy Warden Grant Culliver, Prison Commissioner Mike Haley and Deputy Commissioner Greg Lovelace traveled to Texas and Louisiana last week to observe the lethal injection process.
