Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Cadarious Smith, 29, was arrested and charged with felony attempting to elude a police officer.

McMann said at approximately 8:10 p.m. on the day of the arrest, an APD officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle backed into a closed business parking lot next to the business.
“The officer stopped to investigate and contacted Smith,” McMann said. “The officer checked Smith’s identification, and was notified that Smith had an active felony arrest warrant for theft of property I through the Monroeville Police Department.”

McMann said Smith then fled from the scene in the vehicle when he realized he was wanted.

“The officer pursued Smith as he turned south onto (Interstate 65) and reached speeds well over 100 miles per hour until he was slowed down by slower moving semi trucks who assisted police with stopping Smith,” he said.

Smith was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
