MLK Day events to be held Jan. 16 and 20

The Concerned Citizens of Atmore and the Atmore RhoXi Sigma Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. will be holding their annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. events Jan. 16 and 20.
This year’s theme is Unity in the Community.
Grand marshals for the events are George Knott and James Averhart. Averhart is the executive director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Alabama state conference.
The MLK Day celebration activities include a prayer breakfast on Jan. 16 at 8:30 a.m. at David’s Catfish House in Atmore. Averhart and Karean Reynolds will speak. The public is invited, including any community leaders.
Then on Mon., Jan. 20, the MLK Day parade and memorial program will be held.
Line up is at 8:30 a.m. at Houston Avery Park, and the parade begins at 10 a.m.
