Wreck kills Atmore man

A three car accident Saturday left an Atmore man dead.
Shortly after midnight, at around 12:04 a.m. Martin R. Lassiter, 39, was killed after his truck struck another vehicle headed southbound on I-65.
Lassiter was ejected from the vehicle and run over by another vehicle.
Lassiter was driving a 1995 Nissan pickup truck when his vehicle collided with a 2002 Cadillac drive by Henry Lee Scottland, 40, of Birmingham. A passenger, Steve Carver, 47, also of Birmingham, and Scottland were injured. The severity of their injuries was unknown at press time.
Lassiter was thrown from his vehicle and run over by a 1998 Dodge driven by Iris M. Hampton, 21, of Warner Robins, Ga.
According to eyewitnesses, Lassiter's truck jumped over the median into northbound traffic and then swerved back into the southbound lanes.
Officials with the State Troopers office are unsure of the cause of the accident. The Mobile AST office is investigating the accident.
Another weekend accident has left three with injuries.
At 8:05 p.m. Saturday night, personnel with the Atmore Police Department, Atmore Fire Department and Escambia County Sheriff's office responded to an accident on Hwy. 21, about 3 miles south of the I-65 exit.
A 1986 Toyota pickup truck, driven by Bill Brooks Jr., 75, of Frisco City collided with a 1996 Ford SUV driven by Davis Simmons, 35, of Monroeville. Angela Simmons, 31, of Monroeville was a passenger in the Ford SUV.
All three were injured and transported to Atmore Community Hospital, however their condition was not available at press time.
The accident is still under investigation by the Evergreen State Troopers Office.
