After meeting for approximately three hours in executive session Thursday evening, the Escambia County Board of Education voted against 18 grievances filed by a employee.
Board member Danny Benjamin made a motion that the grievances of Martha Corbin, a payroll/benefits bookkeeper at the central office, be denied and Larry Madden seconded the motion.
The board then voted 3-1 in favor of the motion to deny the grievances. Janice Ash was the only member voting against the motion.
Board members Jimmy Dukes and W.J. Grissett abstained because they were not present to hear all of the evidence regarding the grievances that was presented during the past few weeks.
Chairman A.D. Johnson elected not to vote, saying "it wouldn't make a difference."
The nature of the grievances was not disclosed.
Benjamin's motion alluded to the amount of time the board had committed to discussing the grievances.
After the vote, some of the board members commented on the grievances.
Ash echoed Goolsby's remarks.
Benjamin said it was not an easy decision.
Alabama Education Association Representative Vivian Jones voiced a concern that the board released the name of the employee who filed the grievances.
In other business, the board discussed the settling of the White grievances with board attorney Susan Reaves.
