The city of Atmore is concentrating on beautifying the city in preparation for the up-coming visit of Gov. Don Siegelman.
Siegelman will be touring the area with representatives from the Hyundai corporation in hopes of finding a location for sister plants of the new Hyundai plant in Montgomery.
City officials are asking for the help of all citizens starting with local business owners and ministers.
On Wednesday, June 3, twenty five local officials and ministers were asked to attend a luncheon held at David's Catfish.
While the meeting was on short notice and only 17 of those asked were able were able to attend, important issues were discussed.
Mayor Howard Shell made the importance of cleaning up the city before the governors visit very clear to all those in attendance.
Shell stated that a Hyundai plant could be just what the city needs after the loss of Vanity Fair. He also made clear that everyone needs to work together in the effort to bring Hyundai to Atmore.
Those present agreed with the mayor sentiments on the importance of preparing the city for the governors visit.
The Reverend Dr. Douglas Newton, minister at First United Methodist Church, was happy to help out.
While the central purpose of the luncheon was to get people involved in beautifying the community, another topic was having more meetings of area ministers.
Mayor Howard Shell expressed his willingness to begin having quarterly meetings between area ministers and city officials.
At the close of the meeting there were both plans to clean the city and for other meetings in the future.
