It all began on May 17, 2002 when my daughter Myrana (Anne Askew) McGinnis had surgery for Breast Cancer. Our family members and close friends were sitting in the surgical waiting room at Baptist Hospital, waiting nervously for the surgery to be complete Pastor A.L. Durant, from the Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church appeared. He saw us sitting there, came and joined us, comforted us through the remainder of the surgery and accompanied us to her room after recovery. Thank you Dr. Durant.
Since that time, there has been such an outpouring of love from family, church, coworkers and friends. The telephone calls, visits, cards, flowers, monetary gifts and most of all your prayers have been overwhelming. There is a saying: "love is what love does." If this is true, then Ann is truly loved by a lot of wonderful people.
Our immediate family has been devastated by this dreaded disease striking someone we love so dear, but we take great comfort in knowing that there is nothing to hard for God and in our weakest moments is when we are made strong.
Anne is doing better than expected under the circumstances. She will be taking chemotherapy until November and after that radiation and hormone replacement therapy. She will be off from work until doctors release her in approximately nine months.
Because of such great people we have been able to find peace in the midst of our storm. The storm is still raging but there is peace that surpasses all understanding.
Thanks to all of those who have touched our lives during this trying time. To mention a few, our immediate family, Anne's Co-workers at Frontier Communications, The Staff at Alabama Power Company, Pastor Mitchell and the Harris Street Church Family and our many, many friends.
