YMCA offering Orienteering Course

The Atmore YMCA will be sponsoring an "Orienteering Course" on December 7, 2002 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Claude Kelley State Park.
The event will be divided into two divisions, an adult 18 and older division and a 17 and under youth division. The youth teams will consist of three youths and one adult and will be limited to ten teams. The adult teams will consist of three adults and will be limited to eight teams. Entry fee is $10 per team member. There is a $30 entry fee per youth team and a $40 entry fee for adult teams.
Participants will be provided with a map and compass, but are encouraged to bring a water bottle, snack, and extra socks and shoes. Lunch plates of hamburgers or chili will be available for $5.00 per plate.
Orienteering is a sport in which participants use a map and compass to find points in the landscape. The sport can range anywhere from a simple walk in the woods to a highly competitive event and is for people of all ages and abilities.
