Atmore falls to Brewton

Teams from Atmore and Brewton battled in a Babe Ruth District 7 All-Star tournament last week in Atmore.
The Brewton All-Stars came away with the championship beating Atmore in two consecutive games, but both teams will represent District 7 in the state tournament on July 9 in Wetumpka.

In what turned out to be the deciding game of the Babe Ruth District 7 All-Star tournament, the Brewton All-Stars edged out Atmore’s All-Stars 8-7 at Tom Byrne Park Friday night.
Atmore held a strong lead for the majority of the game, but Brewton rallied with five runs in the final inning to come away with the one-run win.
In the top of the first inning, the Atmore All-Stars jumped out to a commanding lead with five runs crossing the plate. Tanner Smith (1-for-3, 2R), Trey Weekes (2-for-3, R), Nate Smith (2-for-4, R), Tristan Montgomery (1-for-4, R) and Aaron McDonald (1-for-3, R) led the way for Atmore with each recording base hits and touching home plate.
Brewton responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first as Miles Powell (1-for-3, 2R), Chris Jones (2-for-4, 2R) and Tyler Joyner (1-for-4, 2R) each crossed the plate.
Leading 5-3, Atmore extended their lead in the top of the second inning with Smith scoring his second run of the game on a double ripped by Weekes.
After three scoreless innings, Atmore again put a run on the scoreboard as Brodie Amos (0-for-0, R) was walked and scored on a single by Tristan McAnally (1-for-4) putting Atmore ahead 7-3.
Brewton found a miracle in the bottom of the seventh inning as Powell, Chris Jones, Joyner, Rob Jones (0-for-3, R) and Tyler Reid (1-for-4, R) all scored runs to give their team a Distrct 7 Championship.

In the opening game of the 14-year-old Babe Ruth District 7 Tournament, the Brewton All-Stars were able to come away with a 14-6 win last Thursday in Atmore.
Brewton trailed Atmore following the first inning, but never looked back after scoring 13 more runs on their way to victory.
In the top of the first, Jones Manning (0-for-4, R) was walked and scored on a single by Chris Jones (1-for-2, R) to put Brewton ahead 1-0.
Atmore took the lead 3-1 in the bottom of the first with Aaron McDonald (0-for-2, 2R), Trey Weeks (2-for-3, R) and Nate Smith (2-for-3, R) all scoring runs.
Brewton took the lead back in the top of the second with six runs being scored by Miles Powell (2-for-4, 2R), Tyler Joyner (1-for-4, R), Chris Jones(0-for-3, 2R), Todd Mayo (1-for-3, 2R), Nick Laster (1-for-3, R) and Tyler Reid (1-for-3, R).
Atmore pulled within one run in the bottom of the third as McAnally, McDonald and Chasen Freeman (1-for-4, R) each crossed home plate.
Brewton put the game away in the top of the seventh inning as Powell, Chris Jones, Keaton Parker (0-for-3, R), Rob Jones (2-for-4, R), Mayo, Alex O’Keane (0-for-0, R) and Hunter Harp (0-for-0, R) all scored to help their team to a 14-6 win.
