More than two dozen cast members are rehearsing to perfect their lines for the next performance presented by The Greater Escambia Council for the Arts.
The summer production slated for presentation is “My Fair Lady.”
GECA will open the doors to the theater to offer six opportunities to those interested in seeing the live performances.
Show dates are Friday, Aug. 5, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 6, 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Aug. 7, 2 p.m. (understudy show); Thursday, Aug. 11, 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 12, 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 13, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Atmore News office, 128 S. Main Street.
The planned production is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion.
According to the GECA website, the story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so she can pass as a proper lady.
A large cast is filled with familiar faces to those who have seen previous productions presented by GECA.
Ellen Johnson plays the part of Eliza, Norm Boyd the part of Professor Higgins.
The musical’s 1956 Broadway production was a hit, setting what was then the record for the longest run of any major musical theater production in history. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version, and numerous revivals. My Fair Lady has been called “the perfect musical.”
Members of the cast are Ellen Johnson, Norm Boyd, Jerry Janes, Phil Johnson, Dusty Mason, Sharon Poulsen, Patty Castleberry, Nathan Lindsey, Pam Dees, Dan Johnson, Gilda Stubben, Skylar Hursh, Dana Hursh, Amy Branch, Sherrie Hursh, Tony Benauer, Lori Nesmith, Gretchen McPherson, Kaitlyn Chastang, Anna Donald, Wanetta McGinty, Tom McGinty, Amanda Franklin, Savannah Doremus, Courtney Hursh, Brandon Beachy, Ron Weinmann.
