The Atmore City Council held their meeting on Tuesday, a day late, for a very good reason.
Mayor Howard Shell and several members of the city council traveled to Thomasville Monday afternoon to work with the Clarke County Economic Development Partnership at their "Economic Development Summit" held at Pineview Baptist Church.
"It was a very informative meeting. The state docks people were there, Jo Bonner was there.
They want to encompass the whole southwestern corner of Alabama as an economic group," said City Councilman Jim Staff. "If it works it'll be good."
Fellow councilman John Garrard also said the trip was very worthwhile.
"It was a very interesting meeting. It was the first time I've ever seen a meeting that big."
It's a matter of getting them together and working together," said Garrard.
The meeting began with a roundtable discussion at 4 p.m., followed by an open public forum at 5:30 p.m.
The roundtable discussion focused on regional issues, concerns and projects and was coordinated by the Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission and its executive director, John Clyde Riggs.
In other city news, the council passed a resolution appointing Wade Hartley to action city judge.
Hartley will act in judge Bert Rice's absence should he recuse himself for some reason.
Hartley will bill the city $85 per hour to the municipal court.
"There's nothing unusual about the appointment," said City Councilman John Watkins.
"It's just a normal procedure that the city goes through."
The city also approved a request for a tent revival on Ashley Street to be tentively held April 21-25.
