Atmore Police are asking for help in capturing a suspect believed to be involved in a stabbing incident last week.
Larry Charles Johnson, 24, is being sought on charges of first degree assault in connection with a stabbing reported just before 5 p.m. Friday.
According to information released by Atmore Police Department officials, the incident took place at the Speedy Mart Convenience Store located at East Nashville Avenue and Medical Park Drive as the victim pumped gasoline at the station.
Staff at Atmore Community Hospital notified police about the stabbing when the victim was seen at the facility’s emergency room following the incident.
Officers went to the hospital to investigate the incident and interviewed the victim. The unidentified victim reported they were pumping gas when the suspect approached the vehicle and stabbed the victim in the face. The suspect then fled the scene, officers said.
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was later released. Although officers say the victim and suspect were acquaintances, no information on a motive for the stabbing has been uncovered in the case.
A warrant has been issued for Johnson’s arrest, however he has not been taken into custody as of press time Tuesday.
Atmore Police are asking that anyone with information on the whereabouts of Johnson make contact with an officer of call the Atmore Police department offices at 368-9141.
