Bettie Dirden

Funeral services for Mrs. Bettie Dirden, 76, of Atmore, were held Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Jones Street Holiness Church with Dr. Blance Cunningham, pastor of Glory Tabernacle Church officiating. interement followed at Fairview Cemetery in Atmore.
Mrs. Dirden was a former member of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Uriah and a member of Jones Street Holiness Church in Atmore. She was a retired restruant cook.
She wa spreceded on death by her husband, John Dryden, Sr.; her brothers, Dave Bush and Freddie Bush; her parents, Edith and Vanderbilt Bush; her daughter, Betty Carter; her sons, Willie Dirden, Ted Dirden, and John Dirden; and her isters Mattie Lou Coleman, Josephine Gardner, Ulla Biush, and Estell Bush.
She is survived by two daughters, Rachel Shoemaike and husband Roscoe and Margaret Lymon and husband Walter, both of Atmore; two sons, James Dirden and wife Annie Mae and Barron Dirden, both of Atmore; one daughter-in-law, Eloise Dirden of Atmore; fifteen grandchildren; and sisteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbeares included friends of teh family.
Funeral arrangements were made by Turner Funeral Home.
Mary Ellen Bloodsworth Pugh

Funeral services for Mary Ellen Bloodsworth Pugh, 87, of Atmore, were held Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 10:30 a.m at Norris Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Billy Roberson officiating. Interment followed at Bay Minette Cemetery.
Mrs. Pugh was born in Brewton, Al and was a resident of Atmore. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her son, Vonnie Ray Pugh of Pine Grove; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Daw of Atmore, Al; three brothers, Jack Bloodsworth of Pensacola, FL, J. B. Bloodsworth of Walnut Hill, FL, and Raybon Bloodsworth of Foley, AL; two sisters, Sennie Bell Mayfield of Pensacola, FL and Minnie Lavonia Richie of Pensacola, FL; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Norris Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
George Wayne McKay

Funeral services for George Wayne McKay, 79, of Atmore, were held Saturday, May 3, 2003 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Brothers Kelly Brown and Liston Eddins officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. McKay was born February 15, 1924 in Philadelphia, Miss. to the late James Gordon and Ida Nance McKay. He was a retired teacher and coach in the Escambia County, FL school system and a lifetime deacon at First Baptist Church, past president of the Atmore Civilian Club, and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II. A building at Bratt Elementary school is named after Wayne and Nellie McKay in honor of their service and dedication.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nellie L. McKay of Atmore,; four daughters, Babara Ryland and husband Johnny, Sharon McGhee and husband George, Carol Killam and husband Steve, and Kim Downey, all of Atmore; four grandchildren, Nicole Killiam, Chase McGhee, Kellie McGhee, and Hunter McKay; two brothers, James McKay of Brandon, Miss. and Haywood McKay of Jackson, Miss.; five sisters, Ruth Clark of Louisville, Miss., Alice Fulton, Edna Pickard, and Bobbie Cumberland, all of Philadelphia, Miss., and Madeline Strahan of Meridian, Miss.
Active pallbearers included Billy Ray Lee, Liston Eddins, Jerry Mason, Gary Purvis, Freddie Godwin, Dean Smith, and Alton Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the First Baptist Church.,
Johnson Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
