Local churches in surrounding areas are planning for a great turnout during their Vacation Bible School.
First Baptist Church of Atmore, Walnut Hill Baptist Church and Greater Mount Triumph Missionary Baptist Church already had their Vacation Bible School for this summer. Each church held school Monday thru Friday for three to four hours per day.
Both First Baptist Church of Atmore and Walnut Hill Baptist Church are using the theme of "The Kingdom Caper", which helps to make learning entertaining. Kids assume the role of detectives as they search for clues based on the Bible lesson for that day and their age group.
Both churches are also making donations to charities through offerings and/or canned foods. First Baptist Church of Atmore raised 217 canned foods, 17 more than their goal, and donated them to the Atmore Area Christian Care Ministry. Pastor Doug Newton of First United Methodist Church and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the AACCM came over and accepted the gift of canned foods and all offerings collected throughout the week.
Walnut Hill Baptist Church collected and donated $300.00 to the Baptist Children's Home. Thirty-eight children were enrolled and were entertained by the Launching Pad Puppeteers on Friday and had Claire and Grady Milstead, missionaries on furlough, visit during Vacation Bible School. Commencement is planned for today.
Greater Mount Triumph Missionary Baptist Church is using the theme of "God's Treasure Chest" with an underlying theme of "God's riches at Christ's expense". Salvation, Forgiveness, Joy, Victory and Eternal Life were used as daily lessons and identified as these treasures. The number of attendants averaged approximately 50 people each day.
