Atmore resident Cleo McCants was back at the Atmore City Council meeting with a petition including 400 names of people that he says support his convenience store.
At a council meeting in early May, McCants was denied a business license and then two weeks later was denied a retail beer license.
Both licenses were rejected by the council based on concerns expressed by residents who live in the area of the projected convenience store.
Atmore Mayor Howard Shell accepted the names and then explained to McCants that he did not appear on the agenda.
Shell explained that to conduct business before the council that McCants must first appear on the agenda.
Shell and Atmore City Councilman John Watkins then restated the concerns of citizens in the area.
Watkins explained that citizens were afraid that the same type of drug activity that was present at a previous store on this site would occur again at this store.
Shell explained to McCants that the names would be given to the council members and advised that he request being added to an upcoming council meeting agenda to again evaluate his request.
McCants has applied for a business and retail beer license for a convenience store to be located at 136 Harris St. in Atmore.
