According to Atmore Chief of Police Jason Dean, the driver of a 2003 Ford Ranger suffered a blackout Sunday about 3:10 p.m. while headed west on Church Street.
The truck then ran over two stop signs, struck the awning at The Corner Cleaners and then struck an empty building behind the building.
Atmore police responded to the accident, and said the driver of the truck was transported to Atmore Community Hospital.
Dean said that the driver may have been having a reaction to some newly prescribed medication. Significant damage was done to both buildings as well as to the vehicle in the accident.
Dean said that the driver was definitely not impaired, and definitely had not been using illegal drugs.
Because of the man's age and medical conditions, emergency medical technicians suggested he be transported via ambulance to the hospital.
His condition was not immediately known.
