In spite of high hopes and a strong team going in, Class 4A Pensacola Tate's varsity pounded Class 2B Northview 42-6 in Kickoff Classic action at Tate. It happened in two quarters in a jamboree format.
Pushing its strength on the offensive line, the Aggies scored touchdowns every time they touched the ball.
The Chiefs suffered an interception and two special team mistakes, allowing Tate to begin three drives inside Northview's 20-yard line.
The Chief offense fired up in the final quarter when Stevie Scott rushed 19 yards to give Northview a first down. Following a penalty, Scott completed a pass over the middle to Travis Mitchell, who picked up his blockers and sprinted down the left sideline for a 76-yard touchdown reception.
"We're not going to play a team of (Tate's) size all year," Northview coach Chad Lashley said. "We did some things well and seemed to get going late in the game. The kids played hard and didn't quit, and I'm very happy with that."
O'nell Dubose led the Chiefs with 61 yards rushing on eight carries.
Northview will open its regular season Sept. 5 at Jay. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
