United Fund drive kicks off
When there is so much need in the community that it hurts the hearts of its members, what can one person do?
Not a lot.
But every person can do a little. A little here, say one hour's pay every month, a little there, the money a business raises through a rock-a-thon, it all adds up.
That is the strength in numbers, the strength of the United Fund.
That group has started its 49th annual fund drive, looking to raise $75,000 this year.
That money stays here, in this community, where it helps pay for everything from baseball leagues to school uniforms to food bank items and to have power restored to homes when the homeowner cannot pay the bill.
And it illustrates the strength of community.
When we work together, we can do amazing things. We can do together what we cannot do alone.
Many area businesses will help their employees donate through payroll deduction, and some may even match or make outright contributions.
The same businesses lend support in the way of allowing the building to be used for fund-raisers, the parking lot for car washes, the employees to hold a luncheon.
There is no question that this is a worthwhile endeavor.
There is no question that the needs are there in our community.
There is only the question, how would you like to give.
We all should, each to our ability.
We are morally obligated to do so, and these folks make it too much fun not to give.
United Fund is run by a board made up of volunteers who put their money where their mouth is all year long, but especially this month when they are in fund drive mode.
So when those volunteers call on you, or your business, do two things.
One, rest assured that they are really doing good because of the goodness of their heart, and they have given before they ask you to give.
Two, go ahead and fill out that check, or the payroll deduction form.
It will do you, and your community, an awful lot of good.
