Mr. Luther Vaughn Lowell, 52, of Atmore, died Thursday at his residence. He was a well known landscaper and an avid hunter, born in Memphis on March 20, 1951 to Hugh Edwin and Elsie Winniore Kitchens Lowell, Jr.
Mr. Lowell is preceded in death by one son, Thomas R. Lynn, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Christine Lowell, of Atmore; one son, Travis Lowell; two daughters, Janet Kirkland, of Grand Bay, and Dari Stringer, of Robertsdale; one brother, Hugh Edwin Lowell, III, of Mobile; two sisters, Doris Mey Veech, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Jacqueline Lowell, of Mobile; 10 grandchildren, Tosha Kirkland, Phillip Raybon, Jr., Thomas W. Lynn, Amanda Thomley, Kirk Kirkland, Rachelle Lynn, Angel Lynn, Brandon Lynn, Nicole Duke, and Baby Davis; four great-grandchildren, Destiny Kirkland, Tommy Lynn, Kaylee Beaushaw, and Alexander Raybon.
Services will be held today from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dan Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Atmore. Active pallbearers will be Michael Stringer, Richard Kirkland, Tommy Lynn, Phillip Raybon, Alton Lane, Kirk Kirkland, and Earl King.

Sarah Simmons Fayard

Sarah Simmons Fayard, 78, died Thursday. A native of Union, Miss., she had been a resident of Atmore for many years. She was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and a teacher at Ernest Ward High School for six years. She wa the owner of Fayard Jewelers and was elected the first woman president of the Atmore area Chamber of Commerce in 1975. She was Atmore's Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1983 and was president of the Atmore Merchants' Association, Mayfest and the downtown fall festival. She was married to Elam P. Fayard. She is survived by three sons: Gary of Atlanta, Wayne of Atmore and Alan, also of Atlanta; two brothers, Lewis and Jesse Simmons; a sister, Joyce Cochran; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Atmore with Dr. Douglas Newton officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were John Fayard, Chris Fayard, Kelly Fayard, Jason Fayard, Scott Fayard and Casey Fayard.

Mary Alice Griffin

Mrs. Mary Alice Griffin, 84, of Atmore, died Tuesday. She was a homemaker, born in Baldwin County on Dec. 6, 1918 to the late Homer Ellis and Mary Roxie Cook Arant. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay Minette. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Lawrence Griffin. She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Windham, of Atmore; one sister, Esther Boutwell, of Crossroads; one grandson, John Lamar Windham; two granddaughters, Stacey Strawbridge and Sarah O'Donnell; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Strawbridge, Kaitlin O'Donnell, Kacey O'Donnell, and Uriah Windham.
Services were held Thursday at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Douglas Newton officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Alfred Duval Thompson

Mr. Alfred Duval Thompson, 79, of Flomaton died Sunday in D.W. McMillan Hospital. He was born in Port au Cortez, Honduras, and settled in the Flomaton area in 1946. He worked as an Able Bodied Seaman with the Merchant Marines and was a member of the Seafarers International Union. He received his U.S. citizenship on April 30, 1982 with the ceremonies in Mobile. He was a member of the Flomaton Pentecostal Holiness Church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Ann Thompson of Flomaton; three sons, Alfred Wilton Thompson of Century, Clark D. Thompson of Atmore, and Gerry Thompson of Flomaton; three daughters, Eileen V. Thompson of Flomaton, Martha Sansom of Flomaton, and Patricia Rico of Flomaton; two granddaughters, Courtney Harrison and Valerie Thompson, both of Atmore; one great great granddaughter, Meredith Harrison of Atmore; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday at the Flomaton Penetecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Homer Stewart officiating. Burial followed at the Flomaton Cemetery with the Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Johnny Adams, Bodie Hammond, Bubba Hammoc, Malvin Adams, Mickey Sansom, and Daryl Fore.
