City offices have set their hours for the upcoming holidays.
The Atmore Police Department is staffed seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and the Christmas and New Year holidays are no different. It may be reached by calling 368-9141.
City Hall, however, will be closed all day Wednesday and Thursday. It will be closed for business on New Year's Day as well.
The utilities department will also be closed Wednesday and Thursday and New Year's Day. The department may be reached in an emergency by calling 368-9156. This will ring through to the fire department, which in turn will reach utilities personnel by pager and dispatch them to the emergency.
Garbage pick up schedules are somewhat changed for the holidays. There will be no pickup of the Thursday route, but the Friday route will be picked up as usual. The Thursday route will not be picked up until its usual Monday time.
New Year's Day the garbage will be picked up as usual, though.
Alabama Power offices will be closed Wednesday and Thursday for the Christmas holiday, but only closed New Year's Day next week. In case of emergency when the office is closed, you may call 1-800-245-2244. That is the statewide number, but when it is answered, the company will dispatch help from the local office to deal with outages and other emergencies.
Frontier Telephone will keep its regular office hours Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. The office will be closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Banks will also have holiday hours.
First National Bank will close at noon Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day. It will close at 2 p.m. New Year's Eve and be closed New Year's Day.
Regions Bank will also close at noon Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day. It will close at 2 p.m. New Year's Eve and be closed New Year's Day.
United Bank will close at noon Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day. It will have regular hours New Year's Eve and be closed New Year's Day.
As far as other vital services are concerned, check with your favorite grocers and pharmacies for their hours. Perhaps the best choice for non-emergency needs such as cold remedies, paper goods, diapers and toilet tissue, and remedies for heartburn and overloaded stomachs would be to stock up before the holidays arrive so that when the need occurs, it does not spoil any of the activities planned.
