A local teen died in a single car crash Saturday near Huxford.
Miles Bridgman, 16, of Atmore, died Saturday after his car left the road and struck a tree, according to the Alabama Highway Patrol.
Bridgman was driving his Ford Ranger east on McCullough Road near Huxford about 11:45 a.m. when the accident happened.
A passenger in the truck, Matthew Worthy, who is also 16, was injured in the wreck.
Bridgman was a sophomore at Escambia Academy, after he spent his freshman year at Escambia County High School.
Friends and schoolmates were in shock over the news, teachers and students at Escambia Academy said.
"He was into all the sports. He was really involved in track," said Kerrianne Castleberry. "He had a really positive attitude and was very friendly to everyone. We're all just in shock trying to deal with it."
In addition to sports, Bridgman was getting involved with other activities at EA, including the Beta club.
There has been an outpouring of support for the family from around the community, with many families of Bridgman's schoolmates preparing food and offering to help the Bridgman family.
Miles Bridgman is survived by his parents, Bill and Sally Bridgman of Atmore; his paternal grandfather, Richard Miles Bridgman of Montgomery; his girlfriend, Jessica; his cousin, Matthew and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. today.
Monday, another single car accident injured one man. Shawn Cook from Gonzalez, La. was injured in a single car accident on I-65. Cook's Kia left the road and was found upside down off the road embankment of the northbound lane of I-65 about one mile from the Flomaton exit.
Cook was injured in the accident and taken to the hospital according to Highway Patrol reports.
