Not all of the disaster relief workers have ties to the government. For one church, assistance came all the way from Colorado in the form of a youth group.
"We had a group of students in the Presbyterian College Ministry in Colorado contact the Auburn United Methodist Church looking to help," said Glenn Glover, a missionary with the Auburn United Methodist Church. "We got in touch with the Methodist Church's Disaster Relief office in Mobile and they put us in touch with Dr. Doug Newton, minister of the local First United Methodist Church."
The Presbyterian College Ministry brought 21 students down to help out. The group is the 54th from the organization to come to the Atmore area looking to aid in recovery.
Last week, the ministry volunteered to re-roof Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
"I'm real appreciative of this," Pastor Willie Smith said. "This is a wonderful ministry. We're a small church with only about 12 active members. We were a lot bigger but many have moved off. This is going to help us out a lot and we're going to return the favor with a donation to their cause."
The church purchased all the materials and work was expected to be completed by today.
