Bertha Turner Emmons
Perdido – Bertha Turner Emmons, 77, of Perdido passed away Wednesday, June 1, at her residence. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4, at Perdido Methodist Church with Rev. Louis Caballero and Rev. Jim Barrow officiating. Graveside services followed at Perdido Baptist Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, June 3 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Mrs. Emmons was a native of Monroe County, Ala., born on August 27, 1927 to the late Bynum and Bessie McKinley Turner. She was a Postmaster at Perdido Post Office. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy F. Emmons. She is survived by one son, Howard Wayne Turner of Perdido; two sisters, Eunice T. Smith of White House Fork and Betty White of Perdido; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge of all arrangements.
Lois Evelyn Burkland
Pensacola – Mrs. Lois Evelyn Burkland, 84, passed away Tuesday, May 31 in Pensacola. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral home with Pastor Nora Jacobs officiating. Graveside services followed at Pine Barren Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday until funeral time at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burkland was a native of Walnut Hill and a resident of Pensacola for the past 65 years. She attended the Protestant Church, was a loving mother of three sons and a daughter, and was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, and a daughter, Gloria. She is survived by three sons, James Carl Burkland of Davisville, Fla., Lance Steven Burkland and his wife, Cindy, of Pensacola, and Joseph Francis Burkland and his wife, Rosy, of Orlando; her daughter, Aline Victoria Reisinger of Pensacola; her brother, Donald Dennis and his wife, Betty Ann, of McDavid, Fla.; two sisters, Beatrice Plant and her husband, Pellar, of Bratt, and Nora Jacobs and her husband, Charles, of Summerville, Fla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Burklund, Roy Bourns, Isaac Bourns, Hal Raisinger, Mike Plant, and Leon Chavers.
Ruth Mildred Falkenberry
Mobile – Mrs. Ruth Mildred Falkenberry, 94, passed away Friday, May 27. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jesse Woods and Rev. Jerry Keese officiating. Graveside services followed at Philadelphia Baptist Cemetery in Tunnel Springs.
Mrs. Falkenberry was a native of Nadawah and a long-time resident of Mobile and former long-time resident of Century. She was a member of Century First Baptist Church. She is survived by her children, Mildred Jernigan and Grace Renfroe, both of Mobile, Mary Lamb of Virginia, and Bobby Falkenberry of Pensacola; her brother, Bennie Arvin Welch; three sisters, Gladys Gertrude Short, Mary Lee Dees, and Dorothy Louise Young; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chris Jernigan, Casey Pritchett, Eric Jernigan, Andrew Jernigan, Bryan Falkenberry, Eric Falkenberry, and Lyle Spruill. Tim Jernigan served as an honorary pallbearer.
