Peggy Troutman Reeves
WELLINGTON, Kan. – Mrs. Peggy Troutman Reeves, 56, of Gadsden passed away suddenly on June 4 while traveling on vacation with her husband, sister, and brother-in-law. Funeral services were held Friday, June 10, at Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel in Gadsden with Ministers Billy Joe Watson and Norman Flynn officiating. Graveside services will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday at Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel until service time.
Mrs. Reeves was born in Atmore, and resided in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham for a number of years and has been a resident of Gadsden since 1997. She was employed in Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama and was retired from UAB, where she worked in the Chairman's Office in the Department of Medicine and the Center for AIDS Research. She is survived by her husband, Jerry L. Reeves; two sons, Reed Davis of Trussville and Blane Davis of Birmingham; one step-son, Brian Reeves of Calera; her parents, Leon and Willie Lois Troutman of Atmore; her sister, Beverly Barnett and her husband, James, of Atmore; her brother, Larry Troutman and his wife, Linda, of Pound Ridge, N.Y.; one niece and three nephews; special great-nieces Mollie Barnett and Carder Dransfield; and great-nephew Cade Barnett. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Scott Barnett, and special brother-in-law, Tim Gentry.
Pallbearers will be Reed Davis, Blane Davis, Brian Reeves, Jason Barnett, Randall Barnett, Tom Sanor, Alan Gentry, Jim Johnson, Jr., Kerry Lee Johnson, and Edmond Santiago. Honorary pallbearers are Kyle Johnson, Mark Cardwell, and Employees of Traffic Products, Inc.
The family would like to send out special thanks to State Trooper Brad Smith of the Kansas Highway Patrol and Minister Paul Hendrickson of the Wellington, Kan., Church of Christ.
Daisy Dorriety Mills
MONROEVILLE – Mrs. Daisy Dorriety Mills, 77, of Brewton passed away Wednesday, June 8 at Monroe County Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, June 10 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Keese officiating. Graveside services followed at Flomaton Cemetery. The family received friends Friday at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Mills was a lifetime resident of Brewton, a homemaker, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Brewton. She was preceded in death by her sons, Larry Douglas Huggins and Bruce Morgan Huggins. She is survived by three daughters, Janice, and her husband Dr. Woody Ash, of Uriah, Jamie Anne Lipscomb of Birmingham, and Lynn Crutchfield of Brewton; one son, Ronald Mills of Nashville, Tenn.; five brothers, Lavon Dorriety of Mobile, Joe Ivy Dorriety of Pensacola, and Jerry, Billie, and Charles Dorriety, all of Atmore; five sisters, Arvie Jean Jones of Pensacola, Ercel Lee Brackin and Doris Lewis of Milton, Fla., and Betty Weaver and Libby Lundy of Uriah; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Ron Downs, Ronnie Adams, Sam Adams, Gene Frazier, Darryl Fore, and Ronald Mills.
Mattie B. Hawkins
PENSACOLA – Mrs. Mattie B. Hawkins, 90, of Atmore passed away Thursday, June 9 at Baptist Hospital.
Funeral services are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by Turner Funeral Chapel.
Sharon Ann Dawson
ATMORE – Ms. Sharon Ann Dawson, 47, passed away Monday, June 6, at her residence. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 11 at Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Bishop Charlie Etheridge officiating. Graveside services followed at Stallworth Cemetery in Atmore.
Ms. Dawson was a native of Atmore. She was a 1976 graduate of Snider High School in Jersey City, N.J. and worked at Fountain Prison as a CMS in bookkeeping. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Elbert Dawson, and her grandfather, Cornelius Peoples. She is survived by a daughter, Wadilya Amira Dawson of Atmore; a son, Kwasi Jamal Dawson of Atmore; her mother, Gwendolyn Peoples Armstrong of Atmore; one sister, Sandra Marquis Jones of Atmore; three brothers, Ricky James Peoples, Chester Dawson and his wife, Mary, and Anthony Armstrong, all of Atmore; and one grandson, Zaccheus Dawson.
Turner Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
Matthew Richard Baisden
ATMORE – Mr. Matthew Richard Baisden, 18, passed away Tuesday, June 7 at a local hospital. Funeral services were held Friday, June 10, at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Grindle and Rev. Earl Harrison officiating. Graveside services followed at Serenity Garden Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday night at Eastside Chapel.
Matthew was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. He completed his GED course at Jefferson Davis Community College and attended Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Opal Greenwood; great-grandfathers Hugh Wiggins and Douglas McBride, and a great-grandmother, Lula Davis.
He is survived by his father, Jimmy Baisden of Atmore; his mother, Andrea Etheridge of Atmore; a brother, William Sebren Etheridge of Atmore; three sisters, Britton Leigh Baisden and Opal Suzanne Etheridge, both of Atmore, and Savanna Lynn Baisden of Flomaton; his grandparents, Teak and Bobbie Tayler of Atmore; and his great-grandparents, Austin and Callie Taylor of Booneville and Ruby Wiggins of Atmore.
Pallbearers were Timothy McMorris, Bryan McMorris, Shawn Taylor, Justin Rolin, Shawn McBride, Denver Moseley, Emmett Greenwood, Rob Griffin, and Craig Hadley.
