After weeks of hitting on each other, the Escambia High School Blue Devils are ready to start punishing people other than their own friends and teammates.
They get that chance this weekend as they open the season against a traditionally-strong T.R. Miller team.
Head Coach Frankie Bell said his team has been executing well in practice, but that it is hard to say where they are until they face real competition in a real game.
One problem that all teams will face is the excruciating heat they will encounter during the first few games.
Even though ECHS has faced T.R. Miller in the past, opening up with them is something new for the Devils.
As for the players, they are ready to get the season underway.
Bell said one of his biggest concerns is making sure his team gets on the right track early on.
ECHS is expecting the T.R. Miller team to mix up their play selection and if they get anywhere near the red zone, they have the potential for a score.
But, until the two teams actually play, Bell said he really doesn't have any preconceived notions.
