Alma Gray
Luker Phillips
Mrs. Alma Gray Luker Phillips, 88, of Atmore died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005 in Marianna, Fla. She was retired from Vanity Fair Mills as a quality inspector, born in Clark County on July 18, 1917 to the late James Kirven and Mamie Rivers Luker.
Her husband, Jake Phillips, precedes her in death.
Survivors are her three sons, James Preston Phillips of Ashland, Va., Leon Phillips and wife, Elaine, of Columbus, Ga. And Harold Pearson and wife, Roxie, of Atmore; two daughters, Loyce Comer and husband, Ed, of Robertsdale and Margie Williams of Debary, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three sisters, Dessie Davis of West Palm Beach, Fla., Rachel Loftin of Nederland, Texas and Ruth Drew of Mobile.
Services will be Thursday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.
Active pallbearers are, Michael Williams, Keith Williams, Larry Davis, Harold Pearson, Berry Smith and Brian Phillips.
Family will receive friends Wednesday evening, Aug. 10, at Johnson--Quimby Funeral Home from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Luther M. Barnhill Sr.
THEODORE – Mr. Luther Martin Barnhill Sr., age 78, a native of Atmore and a lifelong resident of Theodore was laid to rest in the Garden of Honor at Serenity Memorial Gradens, in Mobile on Friday, Aug 5, 2005 with Pastor Joe Welch officiating, and songs by The Gospel Harmonairs singing "I'm A Winner Either Way", and "A Heart That Will Never Break Again".
Mr. Barnhill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary (Jackie) Barnhill; eight children, Sheila Hice of Deland, Fla., Luther M. Barnhill Jr.(Marty) of Deland, Debby Lane of Fredericksburg, Va., and Stephen Barnhill, William Barnhill, Hankins Barnhill, Wyatt Barnhill, and Perry Barnhill, all of Theodore; two brothers, Willie Barnhill of Pensacola and W.C. Barnhill of Molino; three sisters, Pearl McGhee of Bay Minette, Linnie Whitehead of Atmore, and Josephine Flowers of Pensacola; 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews , cousins, friends and other relatives. Mr. Barnhill worked as a 1st class welder and welding instructor for Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp. He attended church regularly, and always enjoyed playing his guitar and singing for the Lord. Mr Barnhill is remembered and respected for his sense of humor and his love for his fellow man.
Mollie Browder
ATMORE - Mrs. Mollie Browder, 93, of Atmore passed away Wednesday, August 3, at Atmore Community Hospital. She was a native of Eliska in Monroe County and a resident of Atmore for many years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Browder was preceded in death by her husband, John Browder; a son, Fred English; her parents, Scott and Emma Johnson; three sisters, Rosa Finley, Jessie Mae Stallworth, Ellen Paige; and five brothers, Scott Johnson, James Johnson, Jake Johnson, Fred Johnson, and Jack Johnson. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Jo Dailey and Emma Mae Montgomery, both of Atmore; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, 44 great-great-grandchildren, and six great-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 10, at 1 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Atmore with the Rev. S. Taylor officiating. Graveside services will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery in McCullough. The family received friends Tuesday, August 9, at Turner Funeral Chapel at 83 Westbrook Lane in Atmore.

Shirley Ann Westbrook
ATMORE - Mrs. Shirley Ann Westbrook, 55, of Atmore passed away Friday, August 5. She was a native of Mobile and a resident of Atmore since 1985. She attended the Baptist Church.
Mrs. Westbrook was preceded in death by her parents, William and Voncille Screws; and a granddaughter, Katlyn Godwin. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Hugh Westbrook; three sons, James Allen Godwin and his wife, Sabrina, of Atmore, William Joseph Henderson of Atmore, and Christopher Lee Henderson and his wife, Brenda, of Rodgersville; four grandchildren; three brothers, James Sheppard of Houston, Texas, Louis Screws of Valdosta, Ga., and Henry Screws of Texas; a step-brother, James Searcey of Atmore; two sisters, Martha Hall and Earline Jernigan, both of Atmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 9, at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Harrison officiating. Graveside services followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Monday, August 8, at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jim Jernigan, Doug Mims, Jesse Warner, Charles Godwin, Louis Screws II, and Edward Screws.
Raymond Odell Emmons
ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Mr. Raymond Odell Emmons, 79, of St. Charles passed away Saturday, August 6. He was a native and former resident of Century, and a recent resident of St. Charles. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, retired from St. Regis Paper Company after 29 years, and attended the Faith Bible Church.
Mr. Emmons was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Emmons. He is survived by two sons, Larry Emmons and his wife, Vickie, of Augusta, Ga., and Thomas Earl Emmons and his wife, Shirley, of Manford, Okla.; his daughter, Gwen Emmons and her husband, Mike Cole, of St. Charles; a brother, Joel Bernard Emmons of Century; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 10, at 10 a.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Stokes officiating. Graveside services will follow at Flomaton Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, August 9, at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Dorothy Stewart Lowke
SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. - Mrs. Dorothy Stewart Lowke, "Dot" to family and friends, middle child to the late J.D. and Etta Stewart, and sister to the late Myrlene Godwin, mother to the late Jerry Cruit; received her passage to join them, Friday, August 5.
Dot had battled throat cancer and lung cancer for many years. Her valiant fight took her away from her beloved home of Atmore, but her heart was always there. Lessons in life come with a price, but Dot's path, though filled with many hardships, was truly blessed. The lives she touched were gifted with the persona of a woman of substance, who knew who she was, where she came from, and where she was going, and wasn't shy in telling you. Her strength, wit, and faith inspired those who met her, and blessed those who knew and loved her. Her "lore" will remain a part of her family and friends' memories through time.
She is survived by her grandsons, Jerod Trampas Cruit and his wife, Beth, of Santa Rosa Beach, and Chandler Stewart Cruit and his wife, Beth, of Shreveport, La.; a sister, Mrs. Louise Barnes of Fultondale; a "sister in life" Beryl Robinson of Atmore; her great-grandchildren, Kara and Kate Cruit of Santa Rosa Beach; her daughter-in-law, Sharron Lynn Cruit of Santa Rosa Beach; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 8, at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating. Graveside services followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday, August 7, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Lizzie C. Godwin Edwards
JAY - Mrs. Lizzie C. Godwin Edwards, 91, of Bratt passed away Tuesday, August 9, at Santa Rosa Hospital. She was a native and lifetime resident of Bratt, and attended the Bratt Assembly of God Church.
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Edwards, and a son, Alfred Edwards. She is survived by four sons, James Edwards of Nokomis, and A.J. Edwards, Carlton Edwards, and Bernie Edwards, all of Bratt; two daughters, Sharon Zettlemoyer of Baton Rouge, La., and Marilyn Branch of Atmore; 19 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; a brother, David Godwin of Cottage Hill, Fla.; and a sister, Frances Carnley of Lakeland, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, at 10 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Marcus Caraway officiating. Graveside services will follow at Godwin cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, August 12, between 6 and 9 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
