Boaz man wounded at Atmore gas station

The Atmore Police Department is still investigating a stabbing that occurred in Atmore on Sept. 30.
Boaz resident Derrick Smith, 33, was pumping gas at the BP Station on Alabama Highway 21 when he recognized a vehicle that he had witnessed earlier that evening driving recklessly pull into the gas station, according to APD police reports.
Smith said he approached the vehicle and tried to speak to the subject regarding what he had witnessed and was nearly ran over by the driver. The two men got into a physical confrontation and Smith was stabbed by the driver.
Atmore Police Department officers were called to the scene along with the Escambia County Sherrif's Office. Several witnesses were on the scene and were interviewed for the pending investigation.
Smith was transported to Atmore Community Hospital by Atmore Ambulance Service and later transported by LifeFlight to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
