Erma S. Rigby
OAK GROVE – Mrs. Erma S. Rigby, 85, of Oak Grove, Fla. died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005 in Atmore. She was a homemaker, born in McCullough on January 23, 1920 to the late James Bryant and Lillie Hall Smith.
A brother, Alton Smith and a sister, Ira Biggs, precede her in death.
Survivors are: her husband of 60 years, J. D. Rigby of Oak Grove, Fla.; two sons, Jesse W. Rigby and wife Margo of Pensacola, Fla. and Ronald B. Rigby and wife Suzanne of McDavid, Fla.; one daughter, Jackie Darby and husband Billy of Oak Grove, Fla.; one sister, Ethel Norton of Atmore; six grandchildren, Cindy Lee and husband James, Danny Rigby, Dena Rigby, Joey Darby and wife Jolie, Stephen Rigby and wife Samantha, Adam Rigby and wife Marti; two step grandchildren, David Talboy and Jennifer Holt and husband Creighton; one great grandchild, two step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 from the Johnson – Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Chewning officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers were, Danny Rigby, Joey Darby, Stephen Rigby, Adam Rigby, James Lee, and David Talboy. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Oak Grove Cemetery Association, 4350 Gobbler Road, Century, Fla. 32535. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of all arrangements.
Altheria Devon Miles
ATMORE – Mrs. Altheria Devon Miles, 55 recently passed away. She was born June 4, 1950 in Atmore to Willie Hazel (Riley) and John D. Miles, Sr.
She attended Escambia County Training School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Jersey City. In her early years she attended Gaines Chapel A. M. E. in Atmore.
Miles worked for more than 30 years with N. J. Bell or Verizon Communications. She retired in 2002.
Her parents preceded her in death. Survivors include: two daughters, Monique Johnson and Melinda (Michael) Felton; four sisters, Mercedes Jones of Mesa, Ariz., Altamease Chandler, Brenda and Trudy Miles of Jersey City, N.J., Reba and Dorothy Miles of New Brunswick, N. J.; three brothers, John (Camilla) Miles of Hillside, N. J., Steven Miles of Bainbridge, Ga. and Brian (Colleen) of Brooklyn, N. Y.; grandchildren, Miles Johnson, Mason and MacKenzie Felton and Ming Deas, all of Jersey City, N. J.; nieces and nephews, Craig Phillips, Deidre Thompson, Antoine and Antino Chandler, Alatmease (Pepsi) Drummond, Jonathon Bradford Miles, Ikela and Isis Jones and Shawanda (Face) Pinkney.
Funeral services were officiated by Rev. Stephen Thomas.
Ozelle Stone
ATMORE – A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005 at the home of Ruth Godwin, 10651 Highway 97, Davisville, Fla. Dr. Doug Newton of First United Methodist Church and Rev. Mike Grindle Pastor of Brooks Memorial Church will conduct services.
Eli Wilson Adkinson
FLOMATON- Rev. Eli Wilson Adkinson, 86, passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 in Navarre, Fla.
Rev. Adkinson was a native and lifetime resident of Flomaton. He was an active church leader at Flomaton First Baptist Church, as well as a civic leader and an avid farmer.
His wife, Dovie Adkinson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include: his son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Susan Adkinson of Flomaton; three daughters and sons -in – law, Emily and Bill Nipper of Charlotte, N. C., Jean and Larry Shehan of Navarre, Fla., and Diana and Tim Hawsey of Flomaton; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Ethel Horn of Wawbeek.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Tim McKnight and Rev. Dr. Jerry Keese officiating. Burial followed Flomaton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brad Adkinson, William Nipper, Edwin Nipper, Britt Nipper, Jeremy Hawsey and Denver Hawsey.
William Charles Rigby
OAK GROVE – William Charles Rigby (fondly called Charles, Charlie, or Chas) 88, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005. He was born in Oak Grove, Fla., to William Martin Rigby and Margaret (Rhoad) Rigby, the youngest of nine children who are all now deceased.
His lifelong career of over 50 years was as an agent with New York Life Insurance Company in Chicago, Ill. He served in the Armed Forces in World War II and received recognition as a sharpshooter.
After retirement, he spent 12 years in Pensacola, Fla. and moved to Orlando, Fla. In 1995.
Mr. Rigby is survived by his wife of 25 years, Betty, two sons, William C. Rigby, Jr. (Carol) of Wheeling, Ill., Roger L. Rigby (Norma) of Lindenhurst, Ill., a daughter, Juliet Rigby of Melbourne, Australia and a stepson, Gerald (Kerry) of Island Lake, Ill. Eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, four nieces and four nephews also survive him.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005 at 2 p.m. Eastside Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Thomas Martin Stewart
GRAND BAY – Thomas Martin Stewart, 39 of Grand Bay died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 in Atmore. He was employed by Masonite. Stewart was born in Delaware on April 23, 1966 to the late Martin and Patricia G. Dunn Stewart.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Stewart of Perdido, two sons, Thomas Martin Stewart II of Grand Bay, Thomas M. Scott of Perdido, two daughters, April Stewart of Bay Minette, and Jessyka Scott of Perdido, one grandson, Justin M. Whatley and uncle and aunt, Tommy and Jean Stewart of Grand Bay.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005 at 2:45 p.m. in Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Cemetery in Perdido with Rev. J. T. Guyton officiating. Family will receive friends, Wednesday at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
