A pre-construction meeting was held Thursday afternoon at Atmore City Hall to prepare for renovations to Tom Byrne, Houston Avery and Heritage parks.
Goodwin, Mills and Caywood, Inc. officials, along with Lamar Stewart, contractor and owner of Titan Electric located in Dora, were on hand to discuss the specifics of the $810,800 project.
"I know the city is anxious to get this project started," Stewart said.
The city's ballparks will receive new light fixtures and a majority of them will also receive new metal posts. Stewart said he will begin demolition work in two weeks, which will include taking down the old poles and light fixtures and preparing the site for the new, state-of-the-art equipment to be installed.
Other issues discussed were the disposal of the old poles, which will be taken to the city landfill; existing utilities; coordination with Alabama Power; safety of crew members and job-site security.
Stewart also shared with Mayor Howard Shell and other city representatives of what type of equipment will be used during the demo and construction. He said a backhoe; Bobcat; trencher; auger and a small, light-weight crane will be needed.
The project is estimated to take four months to complete. Each field will be completed at different times.
