Oscar Colbert
ATMORE – Mr. Oscar Colbert, 85, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005 at his home in Atmore.
Mr. Colbert was a native of Huxford and a resident of Atmore since 1955. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a retired employee from a tugboat after 20 plus years and retired from International Paper Company.
Mr. Colbert was a senior Honorary Deacon for First Assembly of God Church, and a past active deacon for many years. He was also a veteran of WWII.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Hattie Colbert; his wife, Helen Irene Colbert of 64 years; two brothers, John Henry Colbert and David Colbert; and two sisters, Lillie Mae Kelley and Tinnie Mae Kircharr.
Left to celebrate his life are his daughter, Hazel Lester of Atmore; his son, Earl and Patty Colbert of Tuscaloosa; five grandchildren, Kristie Harvell of Forest, Miss., Chris Colbert, Jennifer Charles and Heather Ward, all of Tuscaloosa and Brandi Lester of Atmore; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005 at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial followed in Serenity Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers were deacons from the First Assembly of God Church. Eastside Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Vera A. Jones
MOBILE – Mrs. Vera A. Jones, 86, of Mobile died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005 in Mobile at Springhill Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Jones was born in McCullough and had resided in Mobile for the past 68 years. She was a member of Dauphin Way Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Jones; her parents, William Monroe and Dora Adams; brother, H. E. Adams; sisters, Vivian Eddins, and Norma Till.
She is survived by brothers, Cecil Adams of Mobile, Alfred Adams of Crestview, Fla., and Ronald Adams of Gautier, Miss., and one sister, Dora Ann Adams of Mobile; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005 at Radney Funeral Home in Mobile. Interment followed at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile. Radney Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
