A road trip to B.C. Rain was soured last Friday night as the Escambia County Blue Devils junior varsity was defeated 48-43 by the Red Raiders.

The Blue Devils led early in the match up, but fell behind after halftime with poor scoring in the third and fourth quarters.

In the first quarter, the Blue Devils looked like they could run away with the game as they outscored the Red Raiders 18-14.

Despite being outscored 11-10 in the second quarter, the visiting Atmore team continued to play strong to end the first half leading 28-25.
Following halftime, the Red Raiders found a groove and pulled in front of the Blue Devils and held the momentum for the final 16 minutes.

In the third quarter, ECHS fell behind for the first time as the Red Raiders of B.C. Rain outscored them 13-6 to take a 38-34 lead into the final quarter.

The Blue Devils were unable to make the most of the final eight minutes of the game as the Red Raiders again won the quarter this time 10-7 to come away with the 48-43 win.

Leading the way for ECHS were Blue Devils Darius McCarthy and and Devontae Walker who each scored 10 points in the loss.

Blue Devil Jarvis Knight chipped in eight points, while Akeem Gray recorded seven.

Jerome Webster scored four points for Escambia County and Garrett Jackson finished out the scoring with two points.

Bulldogs 29

In their first area game of the season, the Escambia County Blue Devils junior varsity earned a victory defeating the UMS-Wright Bulldogs 33-29 in overtime last Tuesday.

The Blue Devils earned the win led by the 12 points from Darius McCarthy.

Escambia County jumped out in front of the Bulldogs in the first quarter outscoring the visitors 9-5.

In the second quarter, UMS-Wright battled back to take a two-point lead over the Blue Devils to go into halftime ahead 15-13.

Following halftime, the teams traded the lead before moving into extra time where the Blue Devils would come out on top.

In the third quarter, Escambia County battled for points and came out on top in the period with a 4-2 advantage.

Tied at 17, the teams used the last eight minutes of play to swap buckets back-and-forth with neither team finding an advantage as the buzzer sounded to force overtime with the scored knotted at 26.

In the overtime period, the Blue Devils ran away with the game as they outscored the Bulldogs 7-2 and earned the 33-29 win.

Along with McCarthy’s 12 points, the Blue Devils received support from Jarvis Knight and Devontae Walker who both scored six points.

Joseph Ferrell and Akeem Gray added three points apiece, while Garrett Jackson and D’Andre Lambert both scored two.

The Blue Devils next game will be Friday on the road at Saraland. Games begin at 4:30 p.m.
