The City of Atmore will host U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala) for a county visit intended for the residents of Escambia County next Friday.
The county visit scheduled to take place on Jan. 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. is open to the public and will take place in the council chamber of City Hall, located at 201 East Louisville Avenue in Atmore.
Sen. Shelby is slated to discuss his legislative agenda for the 109th Congress as well as important issues facing the nation and the state of Alabama.
Following the senators remarks, the floor will be open for questions and comments from those in attendance.
"Senator Shelby has always been very supportive of small rural towns, especially Atmore," Mayor Howard Shell said. "He has always been supportive of appropriations request we make before the Congressional committee, such as industrial projects and airport projects. His visit here is a routine stop he makes to the area. I strongly encourage people to come out and voice any concerns they may have and listen to the Senator's legislative agenda for state and national issues. The local support helps us when we request help from Sen. Shelby. By the public stepping forward he is aware of our needs."
Sen. Shelby has held nearly 1,300 county visits since being elected. As a part of his commitment to the residents of Alabama, he holds a meeting in each county once a year.
"Over the years, these meetings have provided an excellent opportunity for area residents to listen and voice their opinions on the activities of our government. This will be a great chance to discuss the important issues facing our state and our nation as the 109th Congress reconvenes."
