Hazel N. Alverson
ATMORE – Mrs. Hazel N. Alverson, age 79 of Atmore, died on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 at her residence after a long illness. She was a retired seamstress at Vanity Fair Mills after 30 years.
Mrs. Alverson was born in Chilton County on May 19,1926 to the late William Walt and Louise Bright Abbott. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Atmore and a Red Cross Volunteer as well as a pink lady at Atmore Community Hospital.
Her husband, Elmer Alverson, precedes her in death. Survivors are: three sons, Danny L. Alverson of Cullman, Earnest M. Alverson of Robertsdale, and Roger D. Alverson of Atmore; one daughter, Janice Alverson of Atmore; one brother, Earnest Abbott of Ft. Walton, Fla.; two sisters, Mattielene Walker of Wetumpka and Mildred Abbott of Camden; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Services were held on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 at 10 a. m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. Roberson officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
Sara Stevens Pruet
TUSCALOOSA – Mrs. Sara Stevens Pruet, age 91, of Tuscaloosa, died on Thursday, Jan 5, 2006 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa after an extended illness.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1914 in Barbour County to the late Gordon F. and Angus A. Stewart Stevens.
Mrs. Pruet graduated from Clayton High School and received her nursing degree from Hubbard Hospital School of Nursing in Montgomery.
Her husband Arthur Wesley Pruet, Sr. and son, James Alexander Pruet preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Arthur W. Pruet of Tuscaloosa; two daughters-in-law, Madelyn Pruet, Tuscaloosa and Terry Pruet, Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Stella C. Williams, Clayton; two grandsons, Daniel and Wes Pruet; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Clayton Cemetery. Sam Williams officiated with Kent Funeral Home of Clayton directing.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Atmore or the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa.
Wanda Mae Carr
ATMORE – Mrs. Wanda Mae Carr, 64 passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Carr was a native of Dayton, Ohio and a resident of Atmore for the past 15 years. She was loved by all and attended the Baptist church.
Survivors include: her son, Kent and Kimberly Carr of Atmore; three daughters, Joani Lamar of Cottondale, Fla., Jody Carr of Memphis, Tenn., and Beth Carr of Atmore; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Sonny Schenck of Memphis, Tenn.; and two sisters, Carolyn Schenck of Xenia, Ohio and Myrna Fuller of Milton, Fla.
Funeral services will be held today, Jan. 8, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Oglesbee officiating.
