A 7-year-old girl was killed, and two people – including the girl's mother and 9-year-old sister – were injured in a one-vehicle wreck at around 3:15 p.m. Friday in Atmore, authorities and family members said.
Macey Amerson, a first-grade student at Temple Christian Academy in Atmore, was pronounced dead at Atmore Community Hospital following injuries sustained during the accident. According to witnesses on the scene, the four-door Lexus driven by 29-year-old Megan Amerson of Bratt, Fla. apparently lost control and overturned several times before coming to a stop along side Forest Hill Drive.
"It happened so fast," Steve Goodman, a land surveyor working near Dogwood Drive, said. "I looked up and saw the car flipping. My partner and I were the first ones on the scene."
Atmore Fire &Rescue Department quickly responded to the accident and treated the injured, which also included Madison Amerson, a fourth-grade student at Temple Christian Academy. Once stable, all three victims were transported to ACH for treatment by both Kelley's Ambulance Service and Atmore Ambulance.
Life Flight was radioed at the scene of the wreck to airlift Macey from ACH, but was later cancelled. According to friends at ACH with the family, doctors informed family members of Macey's death around 6 p.m.
Megan Amerson was treated and released from ACH Friday night, while her daughter Madison was transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. for further evaluation of a broken arm she sustained in the accident.
It is unknown how many times Amerson's car flipped, but officials at the scene estimated at least two and a half times. David's Paint &Body towed the wrecked vehicle from the scene.
An accident report was not available at press time.
