The Northview Chiefs track and field team was running wild last weekend, but that was OK with head coach Mark Heaton.
Heaton said the Chiefs were without a few key athletes, but they managed to score 20 points at the 2006 Running Wild/ Justin Gatlin Invitational and scoring points is always a positive thing for the team.
"We had some guys competing and that is definitely a start for this program and a building block for the future," Heaton said. "I was proud of them. These guys have shown that they can work to get better and I love that."
As far as points go Nakita Myles and Desmond Hunter were the only Chiefs to score points on the weekend. Myles grabbed 17 points and Hunter snatched three.
Myles scored 16 points by placing second in the 100-meter dash and the long jump. He placed eighth in the triple jump to score his final point.
"Nakita did a good job for us," Heaton said. "It is good to see young guys like him step up and succeed."
Hunter scored three points for his sixth place finish in the shot put.
For his success in the 100, Myles will be given a pair of Justin Gatlin track shoes and Heaton said the details were not finalized on the deal, but Myles should receive the shoes sometime this year.
The only other top-15 finisher for the Chiefs was Wes Leathers, who placed 12th in the 400.
The Chiefs next meet will be March 23 in Bratt at 3:30 p.m. against Monroe County.
