Algy Mae Gilley
BRATT – Mrs. Algy Mae Gilley, 86, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2006 in Bratt, Fla. Mrs. Gilley was a native of Frisco City and a resident of Bratt, Fla., for the past 81 years. She was a member of the OES Chapter 188 and attended First Baptist Church of Bratt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jacob Ezra (Red) Gilley and son, James E. Gilley.
Survivors include: her son, Charles and Rose Gilley of Bratt, Fla.; three daughters, Betty Jean Hall, Yvonne Aden and Sharron K. Murell all of Bratt, Fla.; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ralph "Sport" Flowers of Cantonment, Fla.
Funeral services will be held today, March 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Chewing and Rev. Marcus Caraway officiating. Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Paul Lee, Chad Sanders, Steve Hanks, Lamont Godwin, Pete Amerson III and Ben Brown.
Annie Laura Brown Jay
ATMORE – Mrs. Annie Laura Brown Jay, 92 of Atmore died on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Atmore Community Hospital.
Mrs. Jay, a native of Monroe County where she lived most of her life, had resided in Atmore for the past few years. She was a member of Barbara Locklin Baptist Church. Mrs. Jay was a homemaker.
Her husband, George Harper Jay and her daughter, Annie Betty DeFee, precede her in death.
She is survived by four sons, George Edward Jay and wife, Jessie of Atmore, Mitchel B. Jay and wife Barbara of Grove Hill, Frank Jay and wife Dean of Frisco City, Howard Jay and wife Judy of Opelika and one daughter, Laura Rawls and husband Johnny of Frisco City; one brother, Powell Brown of Benton, Ark.; one sister, Mildred Davis of Monroe, La.; fourteen grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 10, 2006 at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Mitchel B. Jay and Rev. Jim Henson officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill, Ala. Monroe Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Beckey Vickery Shivers
FLOMATON – Mrs. Beckey Vickery Shivers, 51, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2006 in Flomaton.
Mrs. Shivers was a native and former resident of Atmore for most of her life, a resident of Flomaton for the past 14 months and attended the Unity Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Roy Shivers Jr of Flomaton; two sons, Michael and Sherra Shivers of Dothan, and Brian and Rebekah Shivers of Canoe; four grandchildren, Bethany Shivers of Canoe, Rachel Shivers of Canoe, Michael Shivers of Dothan, and Lani Shivers of Dothan; three sisters, Judy and Bill Branum, Penny and Galen Walker, and Peggy and John James, all of Atmore.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Odom and Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brian Taylor, Travis LaCombe, Chad Walker, Chuck Walker, Brad James and Ryan James.
Carma Russell Rudolph
ATMORE – Mrs. Carma Russell Rudolph, 31, formerly of Atmore, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 in Atlantic Beach, S. C.
Viewing will be Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Christian Memorial Chapel from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be Monday, March 13, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Atmore. Christian Memorial Funeral Home is directing.
James North
ATMORE – Mr. James North, 67 passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2006 in North Baldwin Hospital. He was a native of Evergreen and a resident of Atmore for many years.
He attended school in Escambia County Florida and served in the United States Army. He worked at Monsanto as a chemical operator.
His parents, John and Zora North, precede him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce North of Atmore; five daughters, Vickie North, Janice North, Latonia North, Brenda (Laranto) Brown, all of Atmore and Keshia Curry of Century, Fla.; two adopted daughters, Kendra Clark of Evergreen and Tieka North of Atmore; two sons, James (Annise) North Jr. of Atmore, and Vincent (Tina) North of Virginia Beach, Va.; one adopted son, Kenneth Clark of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; two sisters, Johnnie Mae McCants of Cantonment, Fla., and Zora Mae North of Walnut Hill, Fla.; three brothers, Tillman North Sr. of Uriah, Willie North of Atmore, and Robert North of Vacaville, Ca.; and fourteen grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore with Rev. Willie Hawthorne officiating. Burial services followed in Fairview Cemetery in Atmore. Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of all arrangements.
Joe Sanders
CENTURY – Mr. Joe Sanders, age 77 of Century, Fla., died Wednesday March 8, 2006 in Century. He was an electrician, born in Bratt, Fla., on August 25, 1928 to the late John and Fannie Carlyle Sanders.
Survivors are: his wife, Louise B. Sanders of Atmore; five daughters, Leah Sanders and Sherri Proctor both of Va., Shawn Sanders and Sandra Sanders both of Flomaton, and Penny Slate of Atmore; one sister, Ruby Downey; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Godwin cemetery in Bratt, Fla. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
Sandra Kay Lee Cunningham
WAUKEGAN – Ms. Sandra Kay Lee Cunningham, 46 of Waukegan, Ill., died on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Highland Park Hospital in Illinois.
Ms. Cunningham was a native of Amarillo, Texas and had resided in Alabama for some 15 years before moving to Waukegan.
Ms. Cunningham was a homemaker, an artist and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard "Pete" Lee, her grandmothers, Grace Powell of Flomaton and Nell Bradley of Frisco City.
She was survived by her mother, Clara Bradley of Frisco City; one brother, Lenny Lee of Frisco City; two sisters, Dana Higdon of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Cindy Ward of Montgomery; seven uncles, Mickey, Larry, and Kenny Powell of Flomaton, Steve Pierce also of Flomaton, Tony Powell of Cantonment, Fla., Freddie and Gerald Bradley also of Cantonment, Fla.; one aunt, Dianne Stafford of Sugarland, Texas; former husband, Jerry Cunningham of Waukegan, Ill.; and two stepsons, Christopher and Dustin Higdon of Waukegan, Ill.
Graveside services were held on Friday, March 10, 2006 in Canoe Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Finklea officiating and Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Interment followed.
Lucy Marie Cook
ATMORE – Mrs. Lucy Marie Cook, age 74 of Atmore, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in Atmore. She was a homemaker born in Centralia, Ill., on November 13, 1931 to the late Robert and Sarah Scott Carpenter.
Her husband, Hewitt J. Cook, two brothers, William and Frank Carpenter and one sister, Violet Hall, precedes her in death.
Survivors are: one daughter, Susan Mura of Atmore; three grandchildren, Tammy Mura Boon of LaGrange, Ky., Deborah Mura of Perdido and Joey Mura of Huxford; five great-grandchildren, Heather Mura of Perdido, Brittany Boon, Russell Boon and Alexandra Boon all of LaGrange, Ky., and LanDon Mura of Huxford.
Services were held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy Dukes officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Larry Godwin, Gerald Johnson, Glen Thrower, Terry Mosley, John Boon and Russell Boon. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Colbert, Joey Mura and LanDon Mura. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.
