Ella Mae Payne Dewberry
BAY MINETTE – Mrs. Ella Mae Payne Dewberry, 69, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at a Mobile hospital.
Mrs. Dewberry was a native of Brewton and a resident of Bay Minette since 1969. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and attended the First Presbyterian Church of Bay Minette.
Survivors are her husband of 48 years, Charles Shadrick Dewberry of Bay Minette; three sons, DeWayne and Terri Dewberry, Robbie and Angela Dewberry, and Scott and Marcia Dewberry, all of Bay Minette; her daughter, Mary and Charles Duckworth of Mobile; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a brother, Dr. Ed White of Mobile; and two sisters, Dollis Helen Wilson of Atmore, and Margie Ruth Thompson of Jay, Fla.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 14, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Bay Minette with the Rev. Keith Cardwell officiating. Burial followed at Bay Minette Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Friday, April 14, 2006 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Pallbearers were: Shelton Dewberry, Lloyd Dewberry, Jerry Dewberry, Randy Dewberry, Steve Dewberry, Kevin Dewberry and Michael Dewberry.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's or the Presbyterian Children's Home, c/o First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1508, Bay Minette, Ala. 36507.
Melba Lois Gohagins
ATMORE – Mrs. Melba Lois Gohagins, age 85 of Atmore, died Thursday, April 13, 2006 in Atmore.
She was retired from Monsanto, born in Escambia County on May 28, 1920 to the late John H. and Cora Dickenson Kent.
She is preceded in death by her husband, D.L. "Bo" Gohagins.
Mrs. Gohagins was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She also enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center for lunch and activities.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, April 17, 2006 at 10 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Nall and Bro. Leo Kent officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Joseph W. Maxwell
FAIRHOPE – Mr. Joseph W. Maxwell, 85, a native of Atmore and resident of Fairhope, died Friday, April 14, 2006 in Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.
Mr. Maxwell was in the insurance and real estate business in Atmore, first with his father, W.R. "Dolphie" Maxwell, and later in the firm of Maxwell-Haley Insurance and Real Estate from which he retired in 1984.
He is survived by one brother, Robert H. Maxwell of Atmore, and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, W. Randolph Maxwell, Jr. of Miami, Fla., George T. Maxwell of Pensacola, Fla., and Dr. Benjamin C. Maxwell of Atmore. HIs father died in 1963, followed by the death of his mother, Mary Ella Talmadge Maxwell, in 1965.
Graveside services were held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore at 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Rev. Arnold Hendrix, Jr., pastor of Mr. Maxwell's home church, First Baptist of Atmore, officiated.
Serving as pallbearers were Richard K. Maxwell, Dr. David E. Maxwell, B.C. "Bo" Maxwell, R. Chapman Maxwell, Vandon Allen, Ronnie E. Shirley, Hunter O. Allen, and Bradley A. Downey. Funeral services were conducted by Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be sent to the charity of choice by friends of Mr. Maxwell.
Billy Glenn Wiggins
BRATT – Mr. Billy Glenn Wiggins, Sr., age 71 of Bratt, Fla., died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in Birmingham. He was a farmer, born in Escambia County, Fla., on Dec. 31, 1934 to the late Wiley C. and Eunice Merritt Wiggins.
Mr. Wiggins was a Mason of Carny Lodge 549, member of Insulation Union 55 of Mobile, past board of director of Escambia River Electric, and operated Boat Yard Landing and Store for 12 years.
He is preceded in death by a great-grandson, Hayden Clarke. Survivors are: his wife, Quida F. Blanton Wiggins of Bratt; three sons, B. Glen Wiggins, Jr and wife, Jean of Walnut Hill, Fla., Burton Wiggins and wife, Tara of Bratt, Fla., and Todd Wiggins and wife, Diane of Bay Minette; two daughters, Marcia Ward of Gulf Shores, and Kimberly Clarke and husband, Richard of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Olvin Micki McIiroy of Atmore; fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Friday, April 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating. Interment followed in Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, Fla.
Active pallbearers were his nephews, Brad Godwin, Josh Godwin, Terry Blanton, Eric Blanton, John Blanton, Steve Blanton, Mark Wiggins, Wayne Blanton, and Nick Blanton.
Honorary pallbearers were Byron Vaughn, Dewey Fowler, Jimmy Biggs, Richard Washington, R. J. Amerson, Lawrence Vickery, Clark Caraway, Lawrence Cooper and J. T. Mosley.
Family received friends on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc was in charge of all arrangements.
