Lawrence Thomas made two mistakes July 8 as the Atmore Babe Ruth 15-year-old tournament team took on Brewton in the District 7 tournament in Monroeville.
Thomas allowed three runs on four hits as Atmore lost 3-2 to Brewton. The two mistakes for Thomas were the two home runs he allowed. Without those two pitches the Atmore team would have played for a chance to reach the championship game.
But head coach Michael Thomas said it was a great game pitched by Lawrence.
After losing the opening game of the tournament to Monroeville July 3, Atmore defeated Evergreen July 5 and advanced to play Brewton July 8. Atmore was eliminated with the loss last Saturday.
Brewton struck first with one run in the first inning off of a home run, but Atmore answered with one run of its own in the second inning as Cody Vickrey scored on a single to right field by Jamorris Curry.
Brewton scored two runs on another home run in the fourth inning. Atmore was able to push across one more run in the sixth, but that was not enough and Brewton moved on in the tournament.
Curry scored Atmore's other run.
Thomas threw a complete game and took the loss for Atmore. He allowed four hits, struck out three batters and walked three batters.
