Stanford Who’s Who proudly announced the addition of   Carlotta Maria Shinn-Russell, instructor of public speaking at Jefferson Davis Community College’s Atmore branch, to the exclusive ranks of premier professionals Wednesday as a result of her exceptional effort in the education industry. Throughout her professional career, Russell has consistently displayed the passion, vision, and dedication necessary to be considered among the best.

Russell serves as an executive assistant to the president at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS), a public residential high school in midtown Mobile. ASMS was established as the result of a legislative act in 1989 to give Alabama’s best and brightest the opportunity to study at an advanced level in high school. . The school, which is a member of the NCSSSMST, is modeled after the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics and the Louisiana School for Mathematics, Science, and the Arts where students complete their final two or three years of high school focusing on advanced studies in mathematics and the sciences.

An expert in communication and business with over 20 years of experience in the education industry, Russell serves as an instructor of public speaking at Jefferson Davis Community College’s Atmore branch, serves as business instructor at Faulkner University where she teaches small business management, economics, and professional communication in the Management Executive Honors Program, is the academic special project coordinator for the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science, is the immigration technician, faculty assistant, assistant secretary to the board of directors, and is an author.  Russell is a non-fiction writer.  She has written and published two books: We Smoked Our Sister and “Changes: From Spiritual Hopelessness to Spiritual Hope: One Woman’s Search for God: The Discovery. She is currently working on her third book: I Lived on The Other Side of the Line: The 1960 Civil Rights Era: Through the Eyes of A Child, which is due to be released in early summer 2012.  During her collegiate career, Russell earned a Master’s degree in Communication from the University of South Alabama and she earned a Master’s of Business Administration degree from William Carey University.

Russell said her greatest accomplishment is becoming a published author.  Her success is attributed to her drive to be the best she could be and make a difference in her community.  She sees herself in the next five years as a recognized professional as a writer and published author.  She began in the education industry as a librarian at the Chickasaw Elementary School, where she brought the school up to state required levels, and was directly responsible for the school being accredited by the Alabama State Department of Education.

Russell is a member of the National Communication Association; Professional Writers Association of America; American Folklore Society; American Association of University Women.
