Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is offering a special, limited-time open enrollment for Alabamians currently without health insurance coverage. This program is for Alabama residents under the age of 65 who do not have health care coverage.
This Special Open Enrollment is designed to meet the needs of those who do not have health insurance coverage available through an employer. According to the Bureau of Census, close to 600,000 Alabamians are currently without health insurance.
Blue Cross is waiving normal enrollment regulations so that individuals with health conditions like heart disease or diabetes may still enroll (pre-existing conditions will still require a 12-month waiting period.) The program covers hospital, physician and prescription drug expenses.
