In a game that was added to the schedule as a replacement for a canceled contest with Escambia County (Ala.) High School, the Northview Chiefs posted their biggest victory of the season as they dropped Kinston, 56-6.
NHS Head Coach David Williams said it was a great night for his players who were looking for a lift after dropping four of their last five games.
The first sign of trouble for Kinston came with their first snap as the ball was dropped and recovered by the Chiefs. On Northview's first play, Kyle Williams found Jonathan Andrews in the end zone for a touchdown and, after the PAT, a 7-0 lead.
Williams and Andrews struck again on the next possession for a touchdown.
Williams, who only played three snaps of the third quarter, finished the game with 12 completions for 237 yards and five touchdowns. Andrews was on the receiving end of several passes as he had three touchdown receptions. He also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.
Mandel Smith finished the game with four catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
After Williams left the game, sophomore quarterback Daniel Kelley went two for six for 44 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
The ground attack was equally effective. O'Neil Dubose got the ball six times for 101 yards and a touchdown. In fact, it was his 55-yard touchdown scamper in the beginning of the third quarter that prompted the Chief coaching staff to sit down several starters.
Leonte Wright, who saw limited snaps due to a nagging injury, went 62 yards on three carries. Chase Lashley also got three carries for 51 yards.
The defense came close to pitching a shutout as Kinston slipped in a score late in the third quarter. Williams said the entire squad played well.
By the half, NHS held a 35-0 lead. They added two scores in the third and another in the fourth to make the final 56-6.
Northview has an open date this week, which works out well for the Chiefs whose next game is the biggest of the season. They must defeat Catholic High School for a chance at the playoffs. They will need additional help from Marianna High School who must beat Chipley High School.
Northview will travel to Catholic High School on Nov. 3.
