Ardell Mitchell Ross
ATMORE – Mrs. Ardell Mitchell Ross, 90, of Atmore died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 in Monroeville. She was a homemaker, born in Conecuh County in Repton on Oct. 22, 1916 to the late Andrew and Lillie Belle Wiggins Mitchell.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Ross and a granddaughter, Kathy Hall.
Survivors include: a son, Jeff Ross and a daughter, Ida R. Hall and husband, Gene all of Atmore; one granddaughter, Sandra H. Sommerman and husband David of Marrieta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew Sommerman of Marrieta, Ga.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 at 11a.m. from Atmore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leo Hammons officiating. Interment followed in Huxford Baptist Cemetery.
Family received friends, Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 at Atmore Memorial Chapel from 10a.m. until service time.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc is in charge of all arrangements.
Active Pallbearers were Eubie Trawick, Hilbert Hall, Eric Hall, Patrick Godwin, Don Gordan, Devon Jones.
Myrtle Conway Singleton
ATMORE – Mrs. Myrtle Conway Singleton, 86, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 in Atmore.
Mrs. Singleton was a native of McCullough and a resident of Atmore since 1972. she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great- great grandmother, foster parent, and an active supporter of the Atmore Baptist Temple and her church family. Preceded in death be a daughter, Margaret Lee and two grandchildren, David Michael Gross and Trevar Patrick Gross.
Survivors include: her husband of 37 years, Clark Hill Singleton of Atmore; her son, Lane Singleton of Atmore; two daughters, Margie Gross of Atmore and Johnice Danner of Montgomery; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Winston Conway and Ray Conway, both of Pensacola, Fla.; and five sisters, Mable Johnson of Atmore, Leatrice Stacey of McCullough, Joyce Neal of Megargel, Katherine Drew of Atmore, and Ophelia Linam of Monroeville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007 at 10a.m. at the Atmore Baptist Temple with Rev. Doug Odom and Rev. Keith Johnson officiating.
Burial followed at the McCullough Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tanner Norman, Colby Norman, Keaton Gross, Austin Lee, Nick Mills, and Tyler Mosely.
Honorary pallbearers were Larry Gross, Lane Singleton, Sammy Lee, and Scott Lee.
Bama Gertrude Evans
MARIANNA – Ms. Bama Gertrude Evans, 84, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006 in Marianna, Fla.
Ms. Evans was a native of Muscogee, Fla., a former resident of McDavid, Fla., and a resident of Marianna, Fla. for the past 30 years. She attended the Holiness Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Felon and Agnes Evans.
Survivors include: her cousins, Ruby Griffis of McDavid, Fla., and Esta Mae Cartwright of Cantonment, Fla.; and many other cousins and relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at 2p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Wallace Reid officiating.
Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007 between 6 and 9p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Karen Lynn "Chubby" Jones Whatley
ATMORE – Mrs. Karen Lynn "Chubby" Jones Whatley, 43, born in New Orleans, La and a resident of Atmore died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at her residence. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: her husband, Willis Robert Whatley, Jr. of Atmore; six children, Notochia Lynn (Clifford) Stuckey of Walnut Hill, Fla., Sheree Leann Lemoine and her husband William Donaldson of Atmore, Walter Alion (Larae) Whately of Citronelle, Willis R. (Barbara) Whatley, IV of Atmore, Michael Joseph (Angie) Whatley of Mobile, and Melissa Jean Whatley of White House Fork; 21 grandchildren; two brothers, William H. Jones of Mobile and David Jones of Georgetown, Tenn.; four sisters, Carolyn Garrett of Eight Mile, Elizabeth "Jean" Jones of Bishop, Ga., Sharon Holden of Atmore, and Judy Campbell of Kenner, La.; one niece and five nephews.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at 2p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Stapelton.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 from 6p.m. until 9p.m. at Norris Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Whatley, Clifford Stuckey, William Donaldson, Robert Jones, Josh Hadley and David Jones, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Walter Whatley and Willis R. Whatley, IV.
