Caroline Cotter
BRATT, FLA. – Caroline Cotter passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Cotter was born on Oct. 25, 1931 in Toronto, Canada. She retired to the Bratt, Fla. community. Mrs. Cotter served at Atmore Community Hospital as a pink lady volunteer.
Survivors include her children: Cathie (Pete) Giuliano, Chris Mains extended family, James (Claudia) Cotter, Micky (Dahlia) Cotter, Jr., Rebecca (Chris) Bishop, Helen (Doug) Hoover and Jo Ann Cotter; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and dear family friends, Tony Guyness and Richard Appleton.

Gary Joe McGhee
POARCH – Mr. Gary Joe McGhee, Sr., 47, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 in Poarch.
Mr. McGhee was a native of Bartow, Fla., a resident of Poarch for most of his life, a past member of the Cruiser's Unlimited Car Club, a member of the Poarch Creek Indian Fire Department, the Turkey Pen Hunting Club, an avid sports fan, and attended the Poarch Friendly Holiness Church. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Verlie Bailey, and Jack and Ada Bell Lassiter, and two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Allen Lassiter and Martin Russell Lassiter.
Survivors include: his wife, Christine Turner McGhee of Poarch; his son, Gary Joe "Joey" McGhee, Jr. of Poach; three daughters, Tawaka Rolin of Atmore, Crystal Daughtry of Nokomis, and Magan McGhee of Poarch; six grandchildren; his parents, Russell and Maxine Lassiter of Boonevile; five brothers, David McGhee of Nokomis, William Russell "Rusty" Lassiter of Flomaton, Randall "Randy" Lassiter of Anniston, William Bailey of Atmore, and Larry Bailey, Sr. of Atmore; and three sisters, Kathy Ledkins of Atmore, Cecelia Sanpsree of Atmore, and Linda Hamilton of Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Daniels, the Rev. Henry Johnson and the Rev. Ray Ward officiating.
Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007 between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be David Kirby, Ronnie Rolin, Melvin Rolin, Don Wayne Rolin, Wayne McCurdy, and Jeffery Weaver.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Booth, John Booth, Billy Bailey, Jake Bailey, Larry Bailey, Sr., Steven Ledkins, Brian Ledkins, Jason Booth, Randy Fretwell, Adam McGhee, Cameron McGhee, Clint Lassiter, Drake Lassiter, Martin Russell Lassiter, and Timmy Bailey.
Norma Doris Plantz
FRISCO CITY – Mrs. Norma Doris Plantz, 78, died Monday at Monroe County Hosptial.
She was a native of Monroe County and a resident of Frisco City.
She is survived by one son, Mark T. McKissack of Talladega and one sister, Kitty Ethel Ward Freydberg of New York, N.Y.
Memorial services will be Wednesday at noon at the Mexia Methodist Church. She was a Medical Donor to the University of South Alabama College Of Medicine. Donations may be sent to the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, 2451 Fillingim Street, Mobile, Ala. 36617. Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Clydis Hattie (Hadley) Whidbee
PERDIDO – Mrs. Clydis Hattie (Hadley) Whidbee, 77, born in Lottie and a resident of Perdido died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007. Mrs. Whidbee was a retired seamstress with Vanity Fair Mills.
She is survived by: her children, Marie Whidbee (Terry) Bryars of Alpharetta, Ga., Jimmy (Joyce) Whidbee of Perdido, Jack (Mandy) Whidbee of Perdido; four grandchildren, Jennifer Stewart, Stephen Whidbee, Tim Brooks, and Jackie Whidbee; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis James "Sambo" Whidbee.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Sister Thurisa Long, the Rev. James Peacock, and the Rev. James Graham officiating. Interment followed at Bryars-McGill Cemetery in Perdido.
The family received friends Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Bo White, Burl Barnett, Randy Hadley, Ricky Day, Jerry Plovanich and Kenny Weekley.
Funeral arrangements are by Norris Funeral Home.
Cynthia Marie Salter
ATMORE – Mrs. Cynthia Marie Salter, 48, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
She was a native and resident of Atmore and a former member of House of God and she was an usher, church secretary and a member of the senior choir. She united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she was a missionary and senior choir member.
She was a CAN at Atmore Nursing Home, worked for K-Mart as a stock person, housekeeper for Atmore Community Hospital and as a housekeeper for United Bank.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise Johnson and Rev. Willie F. Johnson, and two sisters, Eunice Johnson and Vera A. Butts.
Survivors include: her husband, Jessie James "Red" Salter; two sons, Terry T. (Rita Lee) Johnson and Jerry J. Johnson, both of Atmore; two sisters, Mary L. Salter and Angelia F. Montgomery, both of Atmore; three brothers, William G. Johnson, Marvin E. Johnson and Clarence Johnson, all of Atmore; and 19 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Robinsonville with Dr. Monroe Tucker, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007 from 2p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel.

Dula Bell Smith
ATMORE – Mrs. Dula Bell Smith, 70, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. She was a native of Mobile and a resident of Atmore for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester Hendrieth and Hattie Hendrieth, step mother, and a daughter, Mary Ann Jones.
Survivors include: a grandson, Sylvester Jones and a niece, Jenise Brock.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Bishop Willie L. Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Holly Hargett Cunningham
ATMORE – Mrs. Molly Hargett Cunningham, 83, of Atmore died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 in Mobile. She was a homemaker, born June 6, 1923 in Pollocksville, N.C. to the late W.I. and Dannie Mallard Hargett. She was a member of The First United Methodist Woman and a member of Weslyn Service Guild.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kimbrell E. Cunningham.
Survivors are: one daughter, Faye C. Metsch and husband, Alan K. of Atmore; two brothers, A.C. Hargett of New Bern, N.C. and M.M. "Pete" Hargett of Cove City, N.C.; one sister, Francis Baumann of Asheville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Tori Montgomery of Silver Hill and Melissa Dickinson of New Orleans, La.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Butch Harvell, Bradley Harvell, Blake Harvell, Brandon Harvell, James Nelson, and George Dickinson. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Weslyn Service Guild.
Family will receive friends, Wednesday evening Feb. 7, 2007 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. to 8p.m.

Stephanie Katrina Byrd
FLORENCE – Ms. Stephanie Katrina Byrd was born in Escambia County, Alabama on Oct. 1, 1960 to the late Lee and Jessie Byrd.
Stephanie departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at E.C.M. Hospital in Florence.
She accepted Christ at an early age and spent her life serving God and witnessing His love to those around her. Stephanie was a faithful member of Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore, where she served as secretary of the Sunday School, an usher and often volunteered in any area of need. After the death of her parents, Stephanie moved to Florence with her sister Risa. She joined Tennessee Valley Community Church and Center where she was a member until her death.
Stephanie graduated from Escambia County High in 1978 in Atmore and attended Jefferson Davis Community College in Brewton.
She is survived by; one brother, Lawrence E. Byrd if Snellville, Ga.; two sisters, Eva Durr of Dothan and Risa Shelton of Florence; grandmother, Mrs. Tinnie Saffore of Brewton; one sister-in-law, Shirley Byrd of Loganville, Ga.; and two brothers-in-law, Willie Durr of Dothan and Troy Shelton of Florence; three nieces, Jessica Durr of Atlanta, Ga., Shatonijala Byrd of Loganville, Ga., and Noel Byrd of Florence; a special friend, Corey Holmes of Florence; one uncle, Dr. Manfred (Cheri) Byrd, Jr. of Chicago, Ill.; and many cousins, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 and Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 at Tennessee Valley Community Church in Florence and Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore at 1 p.m. in Florence and 11 a.m. in Atmore.
Pastor Frederick Perkins, Jr. of Florence and Pastor Willie Williams of Atmore officiating.
Pallbearers and flower bearers were family and friends.

Dan Dailey
ATMORE – Mr. Dan Dailey, 80, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at Atmore Community Hospital. He was a native of Monroe County and a resident of Atmore for many years.
He was a self-employed concrete labor.
Dailey was preceded in death by his parents, Van and Josphines Dailey, his wife, Eloise Dailey, two brothers, Robert Dailey and Mack Dailey, and two sisters, Lucy Owens and Annie Mae Gulley.
Survivors include: three daughters, Ethel (David) Hayneworth of Roxbury, Mass., Beverly Ann Dailey of Atmore, and Sonja (Tommy) Wells of Tuscaloosa; seven sons, James (Carolyn) Dailey of Emelle, David (Marsha) Dailey of Brockton, Mass., Earl (Vernice) Dailey, Charles (Joanne) Dailey, Elbert (Margaret) Dailey, W.C. Dailey and Alvin (Gloria) Dailey, all of Atmore; three sisters, Iloa Reeves of Detroit, Mich., Celestine Wilson of Flint, Mich, and Lois Smith of Malbora, Mich.; four brothers, Otis (Annie) Dailey, Arthur (Bobbie Jo) Dailey, both of Atmore, Van Dailey, Jr., of Monroeville, and Benjamin Dailey of Jersey City, N.J.; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at 1 p.m. to be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Tony McAroy.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery,

Daniel Stephen "Steve" Scott
CENTURY, FLA. – Mr. Daniel Stephen "Steve" Scott, Sr., 38, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 in Molino, Fla.
Mr. Scott was a native and lifelong resident of Century, Fla., an employee with Deep South Crane of Pensacola and attended the Bratt First Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Daniel Scott , Pearlie Scott, and Gordain Dunsford.
Survivors include: his wife, Melana Scott of Century, Fla.; two sons, Daniel Stephen "Stevie" Scott, Jr., and Trevor Dillan "T.D." Scott, both of Century, Fla.; his daughter, Taylor Grant of McDavid, Fla.; his parents, Billy Joe and Faye Scott of Century, Fla.; two sisters, Phyllis and Keith Faulk of Century, Fla. and Jo Ellen Gunn of Century, Fla.; and his step-grandfather, A.T. Dunsford of Foley.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 at 2p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Marcus Caraway officiating.
Burial followed at Byrneville Cemetery.
Visitation was held Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 from 6 and 9p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Howard Holley, Tommy Calloway, Jeff Nolin, Corey Parrish, William Odom, and Eddie Dunsford.
